So, I know I haven't been blogging lately... but I have had a lot going on! So yeah, that's my excuse! :)
Anyway, in the past few days (even with my "lots going on") I have had time to do lots of reading as well. Between yesterday and today, I read one of the best books I have ever read. I love to read non-fiction narrative novels, and this one will really get to you!
The Book- Slave: My True Story
Author(s)- Mende Nazer and Damien Lewis
The title really says a lot. Many people don't know that slavery still exists all over this world. Yes today! As we speak, many people (mainly in Africa and Asia) are being captured as slaves: domestic slaves, labor slaves, sex slaves... Being a world history teacher for the past six years, I taught my students about slavery and I would ask every year if they thought slavery was over...and of course they said yes. Then I would challenge them to find current events about slavery...and they were always shocked.
Mende's story will truly capture your heart as she takes you on her detailed journey from her village in Africa through her life as a slave. I could put so much more in here about the book, but I don't want to give any of the story away. It is amazing and inspiring. I will definitely be doing more research on this issue, and seeing what I can do to help (however small that may be).
I would highly recommend this book to anyone!

Gosh y'all make me feel so dumb...here you guys are reading such thought provoking books, and I'm just reading mindless stuff like US Weekly and Real Simple! Glad to be in the company of such cultured friends! Glad you're back! ;)
I have missed you SO much! Glad you are back! I have SO much to ask you especially about this Duke Grad Assistant that your husband had. For the men's basketball team???? {In that case, does he have a twin brother you want to set me up with} haha Does he still have the ability to get into the games? Oh my goodness, I looked everywhere on your blog for an email for you but can't find one. If you don't mind & are willing to put up with my questions, could you email me{flohippo@gmail.com}? If not, no worries, I just hate to write comments as long as these & bug you on here. Anyway, I'm adding your book to my list! Have a great rest of your week! :o) SO HAPPY you're back!
I can't wait to check out that book! Right now I am reading 'Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl' so you're book would be a perfect follow up! Thanks for the recommendation!s
